West Kalimantan, INDONESIA in Haze: Still Waiting for Rain

DISCLAIMER.  I do not have my own photos or video footage for all the situations described in this article. To enrich the article and help readers better understand the situation,

I have included some photos and video footage from their original sources. I respect copyright and the rights of the original photographers, videographers, creators, and media organizations. West Kalimantan, Indonesia, is still waiting for rain. Pontianak, Kubu Raya Regency, and many other areas across West Kalimantan are facing dry weather. The haze is still around, and the situation is becoming difficult for many people.

One of the biggest problems is water. Many people have to stand in long lines to get free clean water. The water is provided by private institutions, individuals, and also through official assistance from the West Kalimantan administration. Each person can receive only two gallons of water. The water is clean, but it is not ready to drink. People must boil it first.

Drinking water is also available at local shops or warung, but the price is rising. A gallon that normally costs Rp8,000 is now around Rp10,000. So, people here have two choices: stand in line for free clean water, or buy drinking water at a local shop\

The Kapuas River is the longest river in West Kalimantan. It is now suffering from the long dry season, with almost no water in some areas. As you can see in this photo from TVONE youtube channel, this is the real situation of the Kapuas River, the longest river in Indonesia. The river is now very dry, and there is almost no water left.

Japan Comes to Help
There is also good news for us. Japan is sending three CH-47 Chinook helicopters and around 180 people to Indonesia. They will help fight the forest and land fires in Kalimantan. The helicopters will come to Pontianak, West Kalimantan. They will be used to carry and drop water on the fires.

I would like to keep it straight that the assistance offered by Japan is considered complementary aid to help finish the forest fires in Indonesia, and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia does allow Japan to participate in efforts to settle the forest fires in Indonesia. Indonesia is still able to handle all land clearing and forest fires. However, in international relations and diplomacy, aid offered by another country should be respected and appreciated for certain reasons.

This is good news for the people of West Kalimantan. We hope the Japanese helicopters can help stop the fires and reduce the dangerous smoke. We are very thankful for this help from Japan. We hope the fires will be under control soon, the smoke will disappear, and rain will finally come to West Kalimantan

Students Study at Home
School students are still studying at home. The hazardous smoke is everywhere these days. Because of this situation, the West Kalimantan Education Service has given recommendations to schools from elementary school to high school. Students are asked to stay at home and continue their studies through distance learning until further notice.

They can study online using Zoom and other online learning methods. Teachers can give lessons and assignments through the internet. University students are not included in this recommendation. For students, studying at home may be safer because they do not have to go outside and breathe the unhealthy smoke. We hope the haze will disappear soon, so students can return to their schools and study together with their teachers and friends

PRAY FOR WEST KALIMANTAN .
